If you’re tired of hearing about the genocide in Gaza, just imagine how tired the Palestinians are of dying from it.

Day-to-day survival should not be our main gig.
Humanity is meant to do far more than just not die.
Unconditional basic income is the foundation for a humanity where survival is guaranteed, and figuring out how to truly thrive becomes our main gig.
People with unconditional basic income reach for the key. They are free to think about things beyond their basic needs.
We have a society full of people reaching for the bread because it's all they're free to think about, and as long as that's true, they'll never be truly free.
Grateful thanks to @ninja for providing us with a home after we fled the bird-site. I hope you find your way back to some form of #naturism eventually, but best of luck for your future whatever that may hold.

So glad the rumour that Johnson got turned away from a polling station for lack of photo ID is actually true. Hilarious. Reportedly the fool thought an envelope with his name and address on would do.

Everyone in Alaska has enjoyed a Universal Basic Income for over 40 years for just breathing in Alaska. Has it harmed them? No. Employment increased. Inflation slowed. Poverty went down. Obesity went down. Child abuse went down.
They basically used Thomas Paine's argument.

"Before I introduced a screen time limit, there was too much watching of YouTube. We need rules!"
Idk, mate. Have you considered that screen time issues are related to the lack of spaces for kids and teens to do things? Because most kids I work with would love to have something to do that isn't "go to the mall and wander aimlessly every weekend," which is all they've got other than their phones or whatever.
These spaces were disappearing when *I* was a kid, and I'm almost 40. Hell, even as an adult, there aren't many places for me to go because they all fucking cost money just to find a "community." Not to mention how uncomfortable they all are.
You can change behaviours by creating a world where kids and teens can freely exist and stop ostracising them from society, among many other things.

Peter Kay fans urged to save money on tickets for his new show by remembering things for themselves

Remember in Blues Brothers when they end up at the Nazi rally and the point isn't even that Jake really hates Nazis, it's that Nazis are about the biggest losers that anyone could imagine. They are portrayed as completely pathetic dead-ender assholes.
Or in the Rocketeer when the mobsters find our the Sinclair guy is a Nazi and join forces with the FBI to stop them because Nazis are clearly the worst thing.
Or when Christopher Plummer rips the Nazi flag in two in Sound of Music.
None of these films were making bold political statements. The Nazis were the bad guys because that was something that everyone in the audience could agree one. Dunking on Nazis was a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
When the hell did we stop agreeing on something so simple and self-evident as Nazis Are Fucking Losers?

“How do you accidentally run for President of Iceland? | by Anna Andersen”
Glad somebody wrote about this because it’s an objectively hilarious UX case study
(And they just announced that eleven people managed to get the requisite number of endorsements in time) https://uxdesign.cc/how-do-you-accidentally-run-for-president-of-iceland-0d71a4785a1e
How do you accidentally run for President of Iceland?
To run for President of Iceland, you need to be an Icelandic citizen, at least 35 years old, and have 1,500 endorsements. For the first time in Icelandic history, this endorsement process is digital…Anna Andersen (UX Collective)

Germany after committing 2 genocides in the XX Century: Yes, we have learn our lesson, NEVER AGAIN!
Germany in the XXI Century: *endorses, arms and facilitates a genocide*
Normal people: Hey, we thought you said "never again"? What the fuck?
Germany: Now, that's antisemitic. You'll need to accompany us to the police station. And stop speaking Gaelic!

This is also why horror is a dying genre. Yeah, there still needs to be ethics when creating, as in don't use real skeletons for your movie. Or don't do it in ways where it comes off as distasteful, like a guro manga that turns a true crime case into just porn.
But shit like this, where one thing is acceptable to portray but another is too far. It's horror! Horror isn't supposed to be comfortable to look at.
If gore is more acceptable than sex, then I'm just gonna assume everyone enjoying violent shit are murderers. Not for real, but call me a gooner, pedophile, sex pest, or whatever for being kinky, then by that logic they're murderers.
A few weeks back I encountered a FOSS guy here explaining that when he sees open source devs ask for money, he blocks them and then stops using their code because they're morally wrong and he only wants to work with tools made by people who are doing the work for the right reasons. (I'm paraphrasing to avoid indexing the post.)
I've resisted writing about it because I'm slammed, but the question I can't shake is: Who benefits from the ideology of "pure" volunteerism?

So, Microsoft is silently installing Copilot onto Windows Server 2022 systems and this is a disaster.
How can you push a tool that siphons data to a third party onto a security-critical system?
What privileges does it have upon install? Who thought this is a good idea? And most importantly, who needs this?

Oooh, Linux is *finally* getting an answer to the Wine synchronization problem. I think this yak has been shaved, what, 5+ times by now over several years?
Everyone is talking about gaming, but this is also *critical* for music production with Windows VSTs. The default Wine emulation is real-time unsafe and completely unusable for this purpose.

May I suggest getting a public library card?
I access almost all paywalled material for free via PressReader using my public library.
If you live in a red state, Brooklyn Public Library offers services to victims of GOP book bans & other attacks on literate citizenship. Ditto Boston Public Library.
This always stuns me.
I have a computer and a 24" screen. I also have a phone with a 6" screen. And they try to convince me that the app (on my phone) is better?
Bwahaha is what I say to that.
I don't mind being amongst extroverts, but I'm happy to just sit by and take it in rather than participate sometimes.
