My mom taught me that people are poor because they were too lazy to help themselves get a job. To give them money would just let them not have to work, and they would go buy beer with it.
Now that I am poor due to being disabled, I know the truth. I am poor because I did not get the help I needed.
Independant human, a lie. We all still need help. Sometimes people need the help because they CANT do the things to get out of poverty.
Some of us cant work, because there are no jobs they can do.
the whole puritanical poor = lazy = deserves scorn and abandoning is a curse. Like even (used to at least) Catholics considered it a person's responsibility and a moral good to help poor people.
But in some cases, we are not alloed the help, by policies set upo that seem so incompatible with the truth of our lives. They try to make it simple, black and white, cover everyone, but these policies are not suitable for everyone, as some of us suffer under these restrictions, like how I cant get married unless I want to give up my income, so we remain together, unmarried. Many of these policies are to blame for the shrinking the quality of our lives.
This is the perfect example of why in this trade-based society things get fucked. Because people are focused on trading, making a profit. And these idiots did just that. Cut corners, then cut their lives short and of those who paid for their scam.

So the guy who stole millions of dollars from my mom and a few hundred other people (pretending to sell them houses on lein) finally got court-ordered to pay reparations, so we've gotten a couple tiny checks (my mom herself gave him $100k over a decade) but they listed my mom's name, whose been dead since 2021, and "c/o" my name, but apparently c/o isn't good enough for -me- to cash them.
Even though my mom knew she was dying (15 years of colon cancer) she never bothered assigning me executive of her estate, or my dad either (who is also dead now as of November), and it's been nothing but headaches because of it. I don't know if I can get the court, based a thousand miles away in Arizona, to reissue the checks in my name--but it's crazy that I, my dead parents' sole offspring, don't have the legal power to cash checks in their name. Meanwhile the guy who stole millions was only in jail for about a year before he got out on "good behavior," because there's no fucking justice in this piece of shit country 🙃 idk man... I just wasn’t prepared for this. My jaw was on the floor.
Spoiler alert: ChatGPT was 100% wrong, like exactly the inverse of the true fact, of the complex, consequential, and costly legal question. A yes/no question where the answer was ‘no’ and ChatGPT said ‘yes’.

I started watching a new anime called "Summer Pockets" and after getting soaked by a sudden wave the MC took his shirt off and encountered another inexplicably topless guy, only for both of them to be called "flashers" by a female lifeguard... I wish all genders had the right to go top free regardless of location instead of only "people who look male," but at least chastising men for taking their shirts off while out walking is a start towards equality 😂

YES! thank you to the anime "Summer Pockets" for rightly pointing out that bare MALE chests are "half naked" if FEMALE chests are! If only western countries were half as culturally advanced! (though one wonders if it was a top free woman would they still say "HALF naked" or just "naked" like Americans would...)
There needs to be a solid market for mid-range GPUs that offer good-enough performance at really good prices, and both Intel and AMD are in a position to provide that.
Let nvidia run away with it at the top end. It's clear gamers who chase top end performance are always going to pick nvidia, so it's a better business move imo to pursue the greater majority of the market that just wants something affordable and competent.

I tried a weird strategy on Lemmy and so far it seems to works.
There were 2-3 dudes systematically downvoting everything I post.
So what I did was artificially create myself a fan base consisting of just others accounts of me and upvoting everything. So with all those "fake" accounts and the few people following me for real, the post stay positive even with some moronic downvoters.
However, when posts already have 4-5 upvotes, the downvoters are surprisingly not present.
So my guess is they just want to demoralize newcomers by quickly making their post negatives. As soon as you gain a real audience, they move away, proving the fact they are assholes.

Also, hilariously, when I went to debug a "Best viewed in Firefox" modal using Microsoft Edge, I actually legit had to add in a <meta charset="UTF-8" /> tag in the head because Edge apparently randomly defaults to ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8 (I wasn't able to find a definitive answer with a quick search and I think it just tries to guess...?) while other more civilized web browsers just default to UTF-8. 😂
