I....... think I've actually finished updating my Pride Vexillum for 2026.

Holy shit, that's a project DONE (for now).

Now to wait until June so I can share it during Pride Month. 😂

Good job that I never have and never will use Mastodon then.

Mastodon is the kind of place where if I made a shitpost like:

You can tell the difference between leaded and lead-free solder by tasting it

So many of you would get mad as hell and probably report me and even consider making a fediblock post, but you wouldn’t do the sensible thing and quote tweet it because you’re too cowardly to have that kind of callout culture

(Feel free to quote tweet this!)

Anyone notice how all (well intentioned) advice for autistic people is just "mask harder"?

What the title says. Well intentioned, often other "neurodivergent" people look at your life, your autism, and say: "you should mask harder."

For example, I accidentally said something that offended a friend. Won't go into detail, but it was me unintentionally coming off as arrogant, not something bad like a slur or hate speech.

I asked for advice (elsewhere) and the advice was universally, "you see, NT avoid this topic at all costs. Going forwards, know it is best to avoid this topic."

But isn't this just saying "mask harder and be more palatable for everyone else"?

Every piece of "autism advice" I see even in "neurodivergent friendly" communities is basically "how to be less autistic."

Yes and no. The advice you received in particular is just as valid for neurotypical people. Knowing what is okay to talk about in different contexts is a learned behavior, not something that comes naturally to everyone.

However it is also true that a lot of advice is just 'mask harder' because... It's really the only thing you can do. You can't control other people and institutional change is slow, so the only option is to affect what you can affect and that will be yourself.

The difference is on WHY you're doing things. Masking is toxic if you're doing it to please other people or because it feels unsafe otherwise.

But adopting different ways of communicating depending on the context is not masking, it's how language works. Nobody speaks to their boyfriend the same way they speak to their Christian grandmother or the same way they talk in Xbox Live .

honestly the fact that they are banning so harshly makes me feel like their admins are trying to keep their users from communicating with air.

Just so disabled people in the UK know, if Reform UK get in, they would repeal the Equality Act, describing it as divisive and a political fashion statement. If you aren't interested in politics, it's worth bearing in mind that politics is interested in you - the immigrant carers that help you, your benefits, your access to work, your right to live free from discrimination, companies' obligations for accessibility, Uber's obligation to take guide dogs.

It's something everyone should be concerned about. Even if you don't belong to one of the protected categories, one day you will be older.

Do you want it to be like the bad old days where someone in their 40s or 50s could be told "yes you've got great experience but older people don't fit with our image, I'm sorry but you just wouldn't fit in".

That is Stigmata what you are saying. You are correct on the 3rd but nut on the first 2. The First two has to be regulated and not to be banned. And i mean it also in context of minors. Because you are make it as a Tabu and this is violence the minors indirectly. This is Double Standard if you argument that censoring everything is a good way to protect minors because that will make more victims if that Topics are stigmatized by everyone. That will get more violence not less.

My latest video is now available on Nebula and Patreon.

I don't use Google Maps when cycling in Amsterdam, because some of the routes it gives are absolutely terrible.

But what's more interesting is WHY Google Maps provides such poor cycling directions, because it reveals some really interesting differences between the way cities are designed in the Netherlands vs. America.

Practical Collision Attack Against Long Key IDs in PGP

In response to the GPG.Fail attacks, a Hacker News user made this claim about the 64-bit "Long Key IDs" used by OpenPGP and GnuPG, while responding to an answer I gave to someone else's question: OK, to be clear, I am specifically contending that a key fingerprint does not include collisions. My proof is empirical, that no one has come up with an attack on 64 bit PGP key fingerprints.

Mastodon character limit is such a weird concept and useless and pointless I can't believe is still there. People who want to say more than a paragraph need to split it into "threads"...insane!

Look:

How the fuck you get to read and interact with a post divided into tens of comments.....

This is silly as fuck people.

If you have no character limit, guess what, you can still make short posts. But not vice-versa.

It is beyond me why this is still a thing in 2025. Artificial limitations.

Man I LOVE Friendica! A proper way to make posts and interact with people. And yet not many are aware of Friendica and how awesome it is.

@Meredith Whittaker you should either move to a Mastodon instance without character limitation or try Friendca. You can even use our node social.trom.tf - and that's for anyone else who is bothered by this artificial limitation of Mastodon.

"if an admin can extend the post size limit in Mastodon then that's a cool feature"

I learned it is not a feature to extend post size limit in Mastodon, but a hardcoded value in code, which is very difficult to change depending on deployment method, but possible. They should make this a feature.

And talking about friendica, it looks outdated (the original theme), which does not provide overall confidence, if comparing to new highly extensible, innovative and beautiful bonfire (for example, a flavor of it for scientists: openscience.network/)

Meanwhile in Ireland, a cultural Basic Income (focussed on artists) has moved from pilot to sustained policy, with the confirmation of an ongoing programme of awarding 2,000 artists €18k per annum.

Interestingly the cost of the programme was less than the benefits to the Irish economy, and the artists in receipt of funds were able to switch earnings from non-art activities to work related to their art practice.

A more general lesson here for UBI?
